Alytus approves giant butterfly zone in Jazminų Park and new community space for Kalva district

The Alytus City Municipality has announced the results of its participatory budgeting round. In the large‑scale category, the project "Jazminų Park WOW zone – butterfly" received the most support with 646 votes and will create a giant butterfly installation in Jazminų Park, adding a distinctive recreational feature for residents.

In the small‑scale category, the winning proposal "Space for the Kalva district community" earned 486 votes and will establish a welcoming gathering area near Amatų and Žiedo streets for meetings, events and neighbourly interaction. Both projects are fully funded from the city budget, with up to €150,000 allocated for the large initiative and up to €25,000 for the smaller one. This round saw nine proposals voted on—five large and four small—continuing Alytus’s pioneering participatory budgeting model, first introduced in 2018 as the first Lithuanian city to adopt the European‑style community‑involvement approach.
