Alytus focuses on personalized visitor experiences and active tourism
The Alytus Tourism Information Center is shifting its focus from mere visitor numbers to the quality of personal experiences for travelers in Alytus. According to Kornelija Volertaitė, the center aims to provide comprehensive assistance to visitors, ranging from route information to medical help or bicycle repairs.
There is a growing trend of active tourism in the region, particularly through hiking and excursions. Evening hikes have become especially popular, attracting locals and travelers from various Lithuanian cities such as Vilnius, Kaunas, and Panevėžys. One spring hike alone drew approximately 300 participants.
Visitors are increasingly exploring the area on foot or by bicycle, utilizing paths that connect city parks, the White Rose Bridge, and the Vidzgiris botanical reserve. These efforts are part of a broader movement to transition Alytus away from its industrial reputation toward a destination for nature and history.
