Alytus increases medical residency scholarships to 16,000 EUR

The Alytus City Municipality has approved increased financial incentives to attract medical residents to address shortages of specialized doctors in the city. Under a new regulation, residents planning to work in local primary healthcare institutions can receive annual scholarships of up to 16,000 EUR.

The scholarship applies to both state-funded and non-state-funded residency studies. However, the amount is capped at the actual annual tuition cost specified in the contract between the university and the resident. This increase from the previous maximum of 10,000 EUR for non-state-funded positions aims to ensure that rising study costs do not deter young doctors from choosing Alytus.

Vice-mayor Kristina Daugelevičienė stated that the measure is a long-term investment in the city's healthcare future, intended to ensure accessible medical services for residents by securing a pipeline of qualified specialists.
