Alytus promotes Jotvingi heritage through new cultural routes
As part of the Interreg VI A Lithuania-Poland program project ‘Mysterious Land of the Jotvingi Tribe’, local communities and visitors participated in a cultural journey through Alytus on September 22. The initiative aims to preserve and promote the history, culture, and customs of the extinct Baltic Jotvingi tribe.
Key developments include the creation of a Jotvingi Way route strategy featuring a stylized brand and digital communication solutions. Ongoing infrastructure improvements include the renovation of the Alytus Archaeological Museum, updates to its interior equipment, and the development of new educational tools.
In the Alytus district, efforts are focused on maintaining historical sites such as the Dirmiškės hillfort and burial mounds. Other planned works include the maintenance of the Rumbonys and Žilva hillforts, as well as infrastructure improvements at the Alytus hillfort and the Mirgrausėlė spring.
