Alytus undergoes major road and infrastructure upgrades
Major transportation infrastructure upgrades are underway in Alytus and the surrounding Alytus District. In Alytus city, significant reconstruction projects are targeting Jiezno, Miškininkų, and Sakų streets. These works include renewing asphalt surfaces, upgrading sidewalks, improving public transport stops, and modernizing drainage and lighting systems. A new roundabout is being installed at the intersection of Jiezno, Lakūnų, Medžiotojų, Miškininkų, and Sakų streets to enhance traffic safety and flow. Additionally, Miškininkų Street will be connected to the Alytus bypass owned by Via Lietuva. Work on A. Juozapavičiaus Street, which includes preserving a tree alley and installing smart traffic lights, is expected to continue until the end of the year.
In the broader Alytus District, capital repairs are being conducted on nearly 10 kilometers of local roads across ten different sections. These projects involve replacing gravel surfaces with asphalt in various municipalities, including Pivašiūnai, Alovė, Nemunaitis, and Daugai. Alytus District Mayor Rasa Vitkauskienė has been inspecting the progress of these road improvements, which aim to modernize the regional transport network.
