Alzheimer risk linked to diet and low blood pressure in new studies
A 15‑year Swedish cohort study of nearly 1,900 older adults found that adherence to anti‑inflammatory dietary patterns was associated with a 21%‑29% lower risk of developing dementia among participants with elevated blood‑based biomarkers (tau, neurofilament light chain and GFAP). The research, published in JAMA Network Open, suggests that dietary strategies reducing inflammation could help prevent cognitive decline, even in individuals already at higher biological risk.
Separate German‑based research reported that hypotension, or unusually low blood pressure, may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease by up to 2.74‑fold. The findings challenge the traditional focus on hypertension alone and highlight the need for balanced blood‑pressure control. Emerging wearable‑device technologies and AI‑driven analyses are being used to monitor blood‑pressure fluctuations and identify early cognitive‑risk patterns.
