In the United States, research from Yale University indicates a significant underreporting of dementia diagnoses. A study revealed that 67% of older Americans had not reported receiving a dementia diagnosis, a rate much higher than for conditions like diabetes or arthritis. Early signs of the disease, such as difficulties with recent memory, word-finding, or managing finances, are often mistaken for normal aging or overlooked by primary care physicians due to time constraints.
