Alzheimer's disease: Biological changes can precede cognitive symptoms

Medical specialists are emphasizing the importance of identifying biological changes in the brain years before the onset of cognitive symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease. While common warning signs include forgetting recent conversations, repeating questions, or struggling with routine tasks, the underlying biological process often begins long before these clinical manifestations appear.

Alzheimer's is the most frequent cause of dementia, accounting for between 60% and 80% of cases. Currently, dementias affect more than 60 million people globally, making it a major public health priority. Dr. Guido Dorman, head of the Cognitive Neurology Department at Ineco, noted that during the early biological stages, individuals may continue to work and maintain social connections without evident difficulties, often supported by their cognitive reserve.
