Alzheimer’s disease trends drive need for earlier diagnosis and brain health focus

The rising prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia is reshaping clinical care, with more than 7 million Americans currently living with the condition. Projections suggest this number could nearly double by 2050 as the population ages. Currently, an estimated 75 percent of people living with dementia remain undiagnosed.

The emergence of disease-modifying therapies that can slow disease progression is driving a shift toward earlier detection and personalized treatment. Public awareness is also increasing, with the Alzheimer’s Association reporting that nearly 80 percent of Americans would want to know if they had the disease before significant symptoms appear.

To meet this growing demand, health systems must prioritize diagnostic imaging and coordinated long-term monitoring. Alongside clinical interventions, maintaining brain health through regular physical activity and adequate sleep remains a fundamental component of preventative care.
