Alzheimer's research advances with clinical trial milestone and immune system studies
Recent developments in Alzheimer's research highlight both clinical trial progress and new immunological findings. Actinogen Medical has completed the final patient visit for its Phase 2b/3 XanaMIA study. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial tested the efficacy and safety of 10 mg of Xanam over a 36-week period in 247 participants. Topline results regarding the drug's primary endpoints are expected in November 2026.
In separate laboratory research, a study conducted at Washington University has explored the role of the adaptive immune system in neurodegeneration. Using a mouse model with Alzheimer-like Tau accumulations, researchers applied a CXCR3 antibody therapy to block specific immune cell signaling pathways. The treatment resulted in a 50% reduction of T-cells in the brain and helped the subjects retain approximately 40% more brain tissue in memory centers compared to untreated controls. Notably, these structural and cognitive improvements occurred even though Tau protein levels remained unchanged.
