Alzheimer's research focuses on therapy eligibility and drug repurposing

Researchers are investigating new pathways for treating Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) through both therapy eligibility assessments and drug repurposing strategies.

One study focused on determining the eligibility of primary care patients with cognitive symptoms for amyloid-targeting therapies. This research aims to understand how patients in clinical settings qualify for emerging treatments designed to target amyloid in the brain.

Another study utilized decentralized real-world electronic health record data to identify potential drug repurposing signals. By screening 181 routinely prescribed medications, researchers sought to find existing drugs that might slow the progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to ADRD. This approach aims to provide a more cost-effective and efficient method for developing effective therapies for the millions of individuals affected by dementia.
