Alzira: 11-year-old girl dies after pillar collapse at irrigation facility

An 11-year-old girl has died and her 9-year-old brother is in serious condition following a structural collapse in Alzira, Valencia. The accident occurred on Thursday evening at the Sociedad de Riegos La Casella irrigation facility in the La Casella area.

Preliminary investigations suggest the children were playing on a hammock attached to pillars supporting a porch structure when one of the pillars gave way. The girl suffered multiple traumas and went into cardiac arrest; despite resuscitation efforts by emergency services, she passed away at the Hospital Universitari de La Ribera.

The boy was transported to Hospital La Fe in Valencia, where he remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Emergency responders, including SAMU units, firefighters, and a medicalized helicopter, attended the scene. The National Police and scientific police are currently investigating the cause of the collapse.
