AM Best upgrades MS Reinsurance to AA and affirms Jacana Re rating

Rating agency AM Best raised the long‑term issuer credit rating of MS Amlin AG (MS Reinsurance), a Swiss‑based subsidiary of Japan’s Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, to “aa” (Superior) from “aa‑” and affirmed its financial strength rating of A+ (Superior). The outlook for the long‑term rating was changed to stable, while the financial strength outlook remains stable. AM Best noted the upgrade reflects MS Reinsurance’s growing strategic importance within the MS&AD group, its expanded international presence and the parent’s strong balance sheet.

In a separate action, AM Best affirmed the credit ratings of Jacana Re Limited, a Guernsey‑registered reinsurer, maintaining its financial strength rating of A (Excellent) and its long‑term issuer credit rating of “a” (Excellent). Both decisions underscore the agency’s view of the reinsurance sector’s resilience and the individual firms’ solid risk management.
