Amadeus data breach affects multiple Asian airlines

A data security incident involving Spanish travel technology provider Amadeus has resulted in unauthorized access to passenger reservation data for several major airlines across Asia. The breach involved an unauthorized party using login credentials assigned to a system account to access travel-reservation records.

Cathay Pacific reported that approximately 53,000 bookings were affected, with accessed information including passenger names, booking references, and flight details. While some records may have included email addresses, telephone numbers, or frequent-flyer numbers, the airline stated there is no evidence that financial or payment information was accessed.

Other carriers investigating potential exposure include Japan Airlines and Japan Transocean Air, which identified roughly 92,000 affected customers, and ANA, which reported about 37,800 customers. Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines have also been linked to the investigation. Amadeus has since reset the associated passwords and implemented enhanced monitoring measures.
