Amadou Ba denounces rejection of legislative proposals in Senegal

Amadou Ba, a deputy and communications official for the Pastef party, has criticized the executive branch following the rejection of several legislative proposals during a commission review at the National Assembly.

One contested proposal sought to require that oil and gas contracts be presented to parliament for review before being finalized by the state, aiming to provide lawmakers with oversight and information. Additionally, the government rejected a bill concerning mental health care in prisons and a proposal regarding the regulation of special funds.

The executive branch defended the special funds, known as ‘Soutoureu’, arguing they are necessary for urgent and discreet social interventions. While the Constitutional Council previously ruled that the management of special credits falls under regulatory rather than legislative domains, Ba maintains that the upcoming plenary sessions will be essential for clarifying positions on public transparency.
