Amalfi Coast hosts sunrise concert and honors Caruso legacy

On August 2, 2026, the seaside town of Minori on the Amalfi Coast staged the thirteenth edition of “Preludiando sul Mare,” a sunrise concert held on the harbor pier. Forty musicians of the award‑winning “Città di Minori” band performed original arrangements directed by Giovanni Vuolo, an initiative originally conceived by professor Gioacchino Mansi. The open‑air auditorium attracted residents and tourists who listened to the music while the sea remained still.

In a related cultural vignette, singer‑songwriter Lucio Dalla spent a night in August 1986 at the Hotel Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento after his boat broke down. While staying in the suite once used by the famed tenor Enrico Caruso, Dalla was inspired by Caruso’s final months and composed the song “Caruso,” blending classic Neapolitan melody with contemporary balladry.
