Amalfi opposition seeks urgent council meeting to save former hospital
The minority opposition group ‘La Casa Comune’ in Amalfi has formally requested an urgent extraordinary city council meeting to prevent the sale of the former San Michele di Pogerola hospital. Led by lawyer Antonella Franzese, the group signed the request with over one-fifth of the council members to force an immediate discussion on the property.
The move aims to halt the asset alienation process initiated by ASL Salerno in May 2026. The opposition argues the historic healthcare facility is of extraordinary importance to the community and should not be removed from public utility.
As an alternative to the sale, the group has proposed creating a ‘Coastal Resilience Multifunctional Pole.’ This plan involves dividing the complex into functional lots to facilitate recovery and maintaining its public nature through specific administrative procedures.
