Brunna Gonçalves defends use of lace wigs against identity criticisms

Influencer and dancer Brunna Gonçalves has responded to online criticism regarding her frequent use of lace wigs. In a video shared on social media, Gonçalves addressed accusations that her choice to wear wigs suggests she is ashamed of her Black identity.

Gonçalves explained that changing her hair is a form of self-expression and personal experimentation, allowing her to explore different styles, colors, and textures. She emphasized that her use of wigs does not negate her roots or her identity. Furthermore, she highlighted a perceived double standard, noting that while white women are often praised for hair transformations as matters of style or personality, Black women frequently face scrutiny regarding their relationship with their racial identity when they choose to alter their appearance.
