Amanda Knox Sparks Outcry with Edinburgh Comedy Show on Kercher Murder

Amanda Knox, the 39‑year‑old American who was acquitted of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher, will present an autobiographical stand‑up show titled “Cartwheel” at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 7 to 17 August. The performance will address her four‑year imprisonment and the legal saga surrounding the case.

The Kercher family, represented by Italian lawyer Francesco Maresca, condemned the show as a “deplorable offense” to Meredith’s memory and expressed shock at Knox’s decision to revisit the tragedy on stage. Knox said she will not joke about the murder itself, only about the defamation she endured, and expressed a wish to speak with the family.

The murder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia remains unsolved, and the planned comedy act has ignited controversy in Italy and among the victim’s relatives, while drawing media attention ahead of its Edinburgh debut.
