Amanda Knox debuts Edinburgh Fringe comedy show, drawing criticism from victim's family

Amanda Knox, the American who was twice convicted and twice cleared of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, will appear on stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 7‑17 August 2026. The one‑woman stand‑up program, titled Cartwheel, will recount Knox’s experience of arrest, trial and eventual acquittal, while she stresses that she will not joke about Kercher’s death. Knox told The Telegraph, “I don’t joke about Meredith’s death. I joke a lot about how I was vilified, but I don’t joke about her murder.”

The show has provoked a strong reaction from Kercher’s relatives. Their lawyer, Francesco Maresca, described the production as “offensive and deplorable,” saying the family remains “speechless” over the decision to turn the tragedy into comedy. Knox said she would welcome dialogue with the family, noting the lingering wound of never having spoken with them.

The controversy highlights the lingering public interest in the case, which attracted worldwide media attention in 2007, and raises questions about the limits of comedy when dealing with real‑life tragedy.
