Amanda Lear accuses Miley Cyrus of plagiarism

French singer and actress Amanda Lear has publicly accused American artist Miley Cyrus of plagiarism. Lear claims that Cyrus’s song ‘Redlights’, from the album ‘Bass Persuades’, bears significant melodic and rhythmic similarities to her 1978 track ‘The Sphinx’.

Lear initially addressed the matter via an ironic Instagram post, thanking Cyrus for the “tribute” to her song. While Lear noted that her producer and record label viewed the similarities as “total plagiarism” and were reviewing the matter with music publishers, she later clarified to French media that she has not threatened any legal action or lawsuits.

Official credits for ‘Redlights’ list Cyrus and Michael Pollack as composers, with no mention of Lear. ‘The Sphinx’ was originally released as part of the album ‘Never Trust a Pretty Face’.
