Amanda Mack, Holy Cross volleyball player, dies at 20

Amanda Mack, a 20-year-old junior volleyball player for the College of the Holy Cross, has died following a battle with severe aplastic anemia. Her passing was confirmed by her family via social media.

Mack was diagnosed with the rare blood disorder in July, a condition where the bone marrow fails to produce sufficient new blood cells. Before beginning treatment, she underwent two emergency surgeries. Her medical journey included six rounds of chemotherapy and full-body radiation in preparation for a bone marrow transplant at Tampa General Hospital.

A former standout athlete from Florida and a 2022 USA Today High School Player of the Year nominee, Mack had previously played for Cincinnati and Eastern Kentucky before transferring to Holy Cross. Holy Cross head coach Matthew Cribbin expressed devastation over the loss, noting her immense enthusiasm and passion for the program.
