Amanda Redman urges action on UK homelessness and anti‑migrant hostility

Actor Amanda Redman, 68, told the Mirror that homelessness in London and across England has become a pervasive problem. She cited official statistics showing a record 4,793 people sleeping rough on a single night in autumn 2025 – a 3% increase from the previous year and the fourth consecutive year of growth.

Redman also expressed sorrow over rising hostility toward migrants, including those attempting the Channel crossing in small boats. She praised charitable groups she supports, such as Ealing Soup Kitchen, the British Red Cross and World Vision, and urged the newly appointed Prime Minister Andy Burnham to follow through on promises made after his visit to the Passage homeless shelter.

She hopes Burnham’s stated commitment can translate into concrete measures to reduce rough‑sleeping and improve public attitudes toward migrants.
