Amanita Design announces Machinarium 2 sequel

Amanita Design has officially announced Machinarium 2, a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2009 puzzle adventure game. The announcement, which includes a debut trailer revealed during the Triple-i Initiative, marks the first new entry in the series in 17 years.

The story picks up after the original protagonists, Josef and Berta, escape the city of Machinarium, only to crash-land in a wasteland. They discover a hidden valley inhabited by two robot tribes: one in the Elektrona monastery and another in the city of Oilton. Both communities are facing a crisis as their energy sources are running out.

Gameplay mechanics will feature the ability to switch between controlling Josef and Berta, utilizing their unique individual abilities to solve cooperative puzzles. The game will maintain the series' signature non-verbal communication style, using animated thought bubbles, symbols, and gestures instead of text.

Visually, the game will continue its tradition of hand-drawn art inspired by Renaissance landscapes and old master drawings. The soundtrack will be composed by Tomáš Dvořák, also known as Floex. Machinarium 2 is planned for release on PC via Steam, supporting both mouse and gamepad controls, though a specific release date has not yet been announced.
