Amapá authorities investigate criminal faction infiltration in elections

Investigations are underway in Amapá regarding the infiltration of organized crime into the political process. The state is among six Brazilian states where the Electoral Public Ministry (MPE) has challenged candidacies due to suspected links with criminal organizations.

In Macapá, authorities are investigating allegations that the criminal faction Família Terror do Amapá (FTA), allied with the PCC, structured support for the reelection campaign of former mayor Antônio Furlan during the 2024 municipal elections. Investigations by the Federal and Civil Police suggest the group may have mobilized voters in territories under its control, specifically in the Conjunto Macapaba region. There are also suspicions that individuals linked to the faction were included on the Macapá City Hall payroll.

In a related development, the Regional Electoral Court of Amapá (TRE-AP) recently revoked the credentials of a former city council candidate, Luanderson Alves, citing abuse of economic power and territorial control by the FTA. While investigations continue, the defense for Antônio Furlan has denied all accusations of links to criminal organizations.
