Amapá prison raid seizes cell phones and drugs

As part of the 13th phase of ‘Operação Mute’, the Amapá Penal Police conducted a search at the Colônia Penal (COP) in Macapá on Tuesday. The national mobilization aims to disrupt communication used by organized crime within prison facilities.

Authorities seized 24 cell phones, various SIM cards, 21 chargers, headphones, and a smartwatch charger. Additionally, officers recovered drug-related materials, including 303 paper packets, 42 portions, 34 tablets, a precision scale, four knives, and a handmade hammer. Other items found included tobacco, lighters, and pepper spray.

The operation was coordinated by the Intelligence Management of the Government of Amapá, supported by the Prison Tactical Group (GTP) and the Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope) K9 unit. Emerson Silva, director-president of the Amapá Penitentiary Administration Institute (Iapen), stated that the presence of illicit materials may be linked to temporary conditions caused by ongoing restructuring works at the facility, noting that there is no evidence of staff involvement or facilitation.
