Brazilian film festivals showcase diverse regional productions
The 54th Gramado Film Festival selected two Brazilian works: the documentary “Divino: Sua alma, sua lente,” highlighting Xavante filmmaker Divino Tserewahú, and the short‑film “Pão Doce” by Guarulhos director Wesley Gabriel, both competing for Kikito awards.
Senator Canedo’s Curta Canedo festival entered its curatorial phase for its 10th edition, reviewing 783 entries and planning 13 competitive sections that will run in September.
The 19th Visões Periféricas festival opened on 23 July, featuring 69 films from 18 states and 856 submissions, emphasizing stories from Brazil’s peripheries, including documentaries, fiction and animation from Goiás.
Additional highlights include a Portuguese‑cinema showcase in Rio and a selection of three Goiás productions for Visões Periféricas, underscoring the growing visibility of regional and peripheral Brazilian cinema across multiple festivals.
