Amar Bell indicted for stabbing Auburn Correctional officer

Amar Bell, 49, has been indicted by a Cayuga County grand jury following an assault on a correction officer at the Auburn Correctional Facility in March.

According to New York State Police, the incident occurred during evening mealtime when Bell approached an officer, struck him in the face, and stabbed him three times using a homemade, ice pick-style weapon. The officer sustained one puncture wound to his upper left arm and two to his upper left back, requiring treatment at Auburn Community Hospital.

Investigators, including the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s Office of Special Investigations, reviewed surveillance footage and recovered the weapon at the scene. Bell faces several felony charges, including second-degree assault, first-degree possession of dangerous prison contraband, and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. Bell is currently serving a sentence of 20 years to life for a previous 2013 assault.
