Amaravati Outer Ring Road project revised to reduce costs
The proposed 189.93-km Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR) project has undergone design revisions to reduce costs. Following directions from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to rationalize expenses, the estimated project cost has been lowered from ₹38,450 crore to ₹30,491 crore.
As part of these cost-cutting measures, the number of planned interchanges has been reduced from 19 to 17. The project will feature a six-lane, access-controlled corridor with eight double-trumpet interchanges for national highways, eight rotary interchanges for state and district roads, and one single-trumpet interchange near Medikonduru.
Additional changes include the removal of proposed service roads on the outer side of the ORR, with service roads now only being provided on the inner side. Furthermore, authorities have shelved a 17.5-km six-lane link road between Tenali and Kaja on the Chennai-Kolkata Highway, which resulted in the removal of two planned interchanges.
