Amari Municipality faces heavy damage from intense rainfall
Heavy rainfall has caused extensive damage in the Amari Municipality of Crete, affecting several villages including Fourfouras, Platania, and Vistagi. Manolis Chnaris, the PASOK MP for Rethymno, visited the affected areas alongside Mayor Pantelis Mourzanos to assess the impact.
Reports indicate significant destruction to the rural road network, irrigation and water supply systems, and sewage facilities. Residential properties and warehouses have also been damaged; notably, six out of ten affected homes have been classified as ‘yellow’ due to the severity of the damage. Additionally, poultry and livestock farms have suffered losses of both animal and plant capital.
Chnaris emphasized the need for an immediate and complete recording of the damages to facilitate rapid restoration. He called on the state to ensure timely and fair compensation for those affected and stressed the importance of conducting studies to implement preventive measures against future extreme weather events.
