Captain Amarinder Singh criticizes BJP over lack of consultation in Punjab
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed dissatisfaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the party does not consult him on state affairs despite his sixty years of experience in Punjab's electoral politics. Singh, who joined the BJP in 2022 after leaving the Congress, noted that he has not been given a significant role or responsibility and claimed that not a single meeting has been held with him regarding Punjab's policies or political landscape in recent years.
While Singh criticized the lack of engagement from party functionaries who he claims have limited experience in the state, he clarified that he is not planning to leave the BJP. He described voicing these concerns as his duty to the party. Amidst speculation regarding a potential return to the Congress ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, Singh maintained that while political loyalties can change, he is not announcing an immediate exit.
Additionally, during a book launch event, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah expressed support for Singh, suggesting he could return to the role of Chief Minister.
