Amarinder Singh Raja Warring resigns as Punjab Congress President

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee amid ongoing factionalism within the state unit. Reports indicate that the Congress high command had informed Warring of its decision to replace him, prompting his resignation.

The leadership change comes as the party seeks to resolve internal divisions between factions led by Warring and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. High-level discussions regarding the reorganization reportedly involved party leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot.

Former minister Vijay Inder Singla has emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Warring. Other potential candidates in the race for the presidency include Pargat Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Pragat Singh. The party is expected to announce a successor within the next 24 to 48 hours.
