Amasya water prices rise to exceed electricity and natural gas costs

Water prices in Amasya, Turkey, have risen significantly, with the cost per cubic meter reaching 27.67 TL. This marks a substantial increase from the 1 TL rate maintained during the period between 2019 and 2024 when the municipality was managed by the MHP.

Following the March 31 elections, the CHP took over municipal management. Under the new administration, the price per cubic meter rose from 5 TL to 11 TL, then to 19 TL, and finally to the current rate of 27.67 TL. Local officials and business owners have noted that water costs have now surpassed the unit prices of electricity and natural gas.

Critics, including MHP Amasya Municipal Council Member Oğuz Kaan Sütoğlu, pointed out that the price of one cubic meter of water is now nearly 50 percent more expensive than one cubic meter of natural gas, despite the water being sourced from local resources like Akdağ.
