Amateur rugby clubs focus on volunteer retention and inclusive growth

Amateur rugby clubs in France are facing challenges regarding volunteer recruitment and retention. To combat the exhaustion of long-standing leaders, clubs are encouraged to adopt structured integration strategies, such as defining clear, informal job descriptions and assigning mentors to new members to foster a sense of belonging.

In the Orne region, the Mortagne-au-Perche Rugby Club serves as an example of grassroots growth. Founded in 2024 by a group of friends, the club transitioned from a small gathering to an official association in August 2025. Led by President Audrey Legeay, the club focuses on an inclusive, non-contact version of rugby played on a half-pitch, emphasizing leisure and accessibility.
