Amatrice road access project approved with €12.9 million funding
The technical and economic feasibility study for a new southern access road to Amatrice’s historic centre has been approved, allocating a total investment of €12.9 million. The plan calls for a new arterial link between the Madonna della Porta area and the regional road SR 260 near the new hospital, creating a ring road to ease internal traffic and improve mobility.
Key components include roundabouts to smooth road junctions, upgraded drainage systems, and engineering works to stabilise the town’s southern slope. The design respects landscape, archaeological and environmental constraints. Regional public works and reconstruction minister Manuela Rinaldi highlighted the project’s strategic role for Amatrice’s revival, emphasizing its economic and infrastructural benefits for the community.
