Amaury Lorenzo discusses mental health struggles and acting career

Brazilian actor Amaury Lorenzo has opened up about his personal struggles with depression and mental health. During a podcast appearance, Lorenzo revealed that he faced a period of severe mental health challenges while filming his fourth telenovela, noting that he was medicated during that time.

Lorenzo shared that acting served as a refuge during his darkest moments, stating that “art saves” because his characters allowed him to find moments of pleasure and temporary escape from his external difficulties.

Beyond his acting career, Lorenzo has worked as a performing arts teacher for twenty years, specifically choosing to work in peripheral communities in Rio de Janeiro to promote the transformative power of education and art. He is currently preparing for his 44th character, Lucas Sampaio, in the production ‘Por Você’, a role portraying an educator who views teaching as a tool for social transformation.
