Amazônia Groove documentary explores Brazilian regional music

The documentary ‘Amazônia Groove’, directed by Bruno Murtinho, explores the musical diversity of the Amazon region. The film traces a sonic map through Pará, using the Amazon River as a central theme to connect various musical expressions, ranging from traditional rhythms like carimbó and guitarrada to contemporary electronic genres such as tecnobrega.

Produced in 2018, the film features artists including Dona Onete, Sebastião Tapajós, Mestre Damasceno, and Manoel Cordeiro. It examines how geography, economy, and social life influence local creation. The documentary previously won the Best Cinematography award at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in 2019.
