U.S. Independence Day Travel Peaks as Retailers Offer Holiday Deals

The American Automobile Association projects 72.2 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the July 4 holiday week, a slight increase over last year's record. About 61.4 million are expected to drive, 5.85 million to fly, and 4.93 million to use buses, trains or cruises, with travel demand flattening but still reaching record volumes. Top domestic destinations include Seattle, Orlando, Anchorage, Miami and New York, while popular international spots feature Vancouver, Rome, Dublin, Paris and London.

Retailers are rolling out Fourth of July promotions to help travelers save. DoorDash’s DashPass offers BOGO deals on pizza and burgers, plus discounts on groceries, home‑improvement items and Lyft rides. Target’s holiday sale provides up to 40 % off groceries, apparel, outdoor gear and patio furniture. Amazon Prime members can save 50 cents per gallon on a single fuel purchase at participating BP, Amoco, ampm and Thorntons stations from July 2‑5, with an additional 10 cents per gallon year‑round. JCPenney rewards shoppers who bring a gas‑receipt with a $10‑off‑$10 coupon. Gas prices have slipped to around $3.85 per gallon, the lowest since March, easing the cost of road trips.
