Amazon Bedrock adds OpenAI GPT-5.6 support and cross-region inference

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has expanded its Amazon Bedrock service to include support for OpenAI GPT-5.6 models, specifically the Sol, Terra, and Luna versions. These models are available via the bedrock-runtime endpoint and support the Responses, Converse, and Chat Completions APIs.

The update introduces Cross-Region Inferencing capabilities, which allow users to utilize both Global and Geo inference profiles. Global cross-region inference routes requests across multiple AWS Regions to provide higher throughput and lower costs per token. Geo cross-region inference, including new US Geo (US CRIS) support, allows for scaling while ensuring data is processed within a predefined geography.

Integration with the bedrock-runtime endpoint ensures that these OpenAI models utilize existing account-level controls. This includes model invocation logging to Amazon S3 or Amazon CloudWatch Logs, as well as detailed metrics and cost attribution through AWS Cost Explorer.
