Tree Day observations highlight global conservation and reforestation efforts

September 21 marks Tree Day in several regions, including Brazil and Portugal, serving as a global reminder of the vital role forests play in biodiversity, climate regulation, and oxygen production. In the Southern Hemisphere, the date coincides with the arrival of spring.

In Brazil, various sectors are engaging in conservation efforts. Companies like Suzano and Bracell are implementing sustainable forestry models, utilizing geospatial intelligence to ensure zero deforestation and creating biological corridors to connect forest fragments. In São Paulo, the Instituto Nova Era de Desenvolvimento Socioambiental is piloting agroforestry projects that combine native tree planting with food production to restore degraded areas.

Local municipalities are also active. Florianópolis and Campo Grande are conducting seedling distributions and urban arborization programs, with Campo Grande recognized as a leading arborized capital. Educational and community initiatives, such as seedling giveaways in Cuiabá and literacy picnics in Várzea Grande, aim to foster environmental awareness among students and retirees.
