Amazon carbon credit projects drive conservation and emission offsetting

Tecban, the manager of Banco24Horas, has announced the full compensation of carbon emissions associated with the electricity consumption of its mini Banco24Horas and Banco24Horas max devices. Between 2021 and 2024, this initiative neutralized 1,840 tons of CO2 by acquiring REDD+ carbon credits from the Envira Amazônia project in Acre. These credits are certified by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the CCB Gold standard, which recognizes positive impacts on biodiversity and local communities.

In a separate conservation effort in Roraima, the Vale do Rio Branco project, led by the company ZEG, is utilizing carbon credits to protect 14,000 hectares of forest in Caracaraí. By transforming forest preservation into a source of income, the project incentivizes landowners to maintain standing forests instead of converting land for agribusiness, such as soy farming. This model prevents greenhouse gas emissions and supports local biodiversity, including species like jaguars and giant anteaters.
