Amazon drone deliveries face protests in Richardson, Texas
Residents in Richardson, Texas, are protesting the noise and perceived privacy intrusions caused by Amazon’s Prime Air delivery drones. Since the local facility opened in December 2025, neighbors have reported constant overhead traffic, describing the sound as a persistent humming or similar to a “flying lawnmower.”
Some residents have tracked dozens of drone flyovers in a single day, expressing concerns that the aircraft fly too low and are too intrusive. There are also growing anxieties regarding privacy, as the drones are equipped with multiple cameras, leaving residents uncertain about what data is being recorded and how it is used.
Amazon has stated that noise reduction is a design priority, claiming the sound during delivery is brief and comparable to a passing car. The company noted that it has met with local officials and has already taken steps to adjust some flight paths toward commercial areas and increase average cruising altitudes to approximately 225 feet. Despite these adjustments, many community members continue to demand stricter flight time limits and higher altitudes to mitigate the impact on residential neighborhoods.
