Amazon electricity consumption rises during summer peak

In the Amazon region, the summer season—peaking in September—is driving a significant increase in electricity consumption due to the intensive use of air conditioning and fans. This surge in demand is compounded by the implementation of the ‘yellow flag’ tariff, which adds an extra charge of R$ 1.885 for every 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed.

Experts suggest several methods to mitigate rising costs. For air conditioning, maintaining temperatures between 24°C and 25°C can prevent excessive consumption, as every degree lower can increase usage by approximately 8%. Additionally, regular filter cleaning, using curtains to block heat, and investing in Inverter technology with a Procel A rating can lead to energy savings of up to 40%.
