Amazon executives express interest in ‘Doctor Who’ partnership

Amazon executives have expressed openness to discussing intellectual property partnerships regarding the sci-fi series ‘Doctor Who’ following the conclusion of its deal with Disney+. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Oliver Jones, Senior Commissioner for UK Scripted at Prime Video, stated, “I love Doctor Who, and we welcome any conversations around IP.”

The series is expected to be put out to competitive tender after the BBC’s partnership with Disney ended. While the future of the show remains uncertain, BBC Studios CEO Tom Fussell confirmed the studio intends to compete for the production rights, stating, “We are in it to win it.”

In a broader move, Amazon MGM Studios VP of International Originals Nicole Clemens announced an increase in investment for British content. Clemens noted that commissioning and decision-making power for these projects is now centralized in London, signaling an intent to expand the streamer's UK scripted and unscripted programming.
