Jeff Bezos warns AI will create labor shortage, not replace workers

At the VivaTech conference in Paris, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said artificial intelligence will not make humans obsolete but will create a shortage of labour, opening new opportunities for builders, creators and entrepreneurs. He cited space‑industry projects as examples of how AI could free resources for larger goals.

Amazon has already cut roughly 30,000 corporate positions as it adopts AI‑driven efficiency tools. CEO Andy Jassy warned that the rapid expansion of AI is reshaping job functions, creating demand for skills in AI tooling, data interpretation and automation management while exposing a talent gap.

The Harvard Business Review warned that intensive use of generative AI can cause “knowledge rot,” eroding information quality, trust and increasing the time workers spend verifying AI‑generated content.

In China, a court ruled that AI cannot be used as a justification for dismissing employees, reinforcing labour protections and highlighting a stark contrast with at‑will employment practices in the United States.

Brazil’s tech community has organized several AI‑focused events – including HostGator’s SuperGator, RPA & AI TECH, and the DSX 2026 summit – emphasizing the growing importance of uniquely human skills such as creativity, empathy and strategic decision‑making alongside automation.

A separate report also revealed that massive music datasets, containing over 21 million tracks, are being used to train generative AI models, raising copyright and ethical concerns about data provenance.
