Amazon exit from Malpensa threatens hundreds of jobs

Labor unions, regional authorities, and airport operators have met in Lombardy to address the employment crisis following Amazon's decision to withdraw activities from Malpensa Airport. The discussions involved representatives from Sea, various operating companies, and several unions, including FILT CGIL, FIT CISL, UILTRASPORTI, UGL TA, and FLAI.

While MLE has committed to not proceeding with layoffs for permanent staff, unions are urgently calling for protections for temporary and fixed-term workers, who are considered the most vulnerable to the reduction in activities. To mitigate job losses, a ‘Job Day’ has been scheduled for October 5, 2026, at Malpensa, aimed at facilitating professional relocation and connecting workers with new employment opportunities.
