Amazon expands Prime Air drone services in UK and US

Amazon is expanding its Prime Air drone delivery services in both the United States and the United Kingdom, while navigating noise concerns. In the UK, the company is seeking approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to extend its drone operations across the entirety of Darlington following a successful trial period. The service, which currently delivers items under 5lb within a 7.5-mile radius, aims for eventual nationwide rollout.

In the US, Amazon is addressing noise complaints regarding its drone operations in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While company representatives have stated that drones are quieter than idling delivery trucks, FAA filings indicate noise levels can reach 92.1 decibels. Amazon has previously addressed similar resident complaints in Richardson, Texas, by increasing flight altitudes and rerouting departures over commercial land to mitigate the impact on residential neighborhoods.
