Amazon Fund allocates R$ 34.6 million for agroecology in Brazil

The Amazon Fund has approved R$ 34.6 million for the ‘Amazônia Agroecológica’ project, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable production, forest conservation, and food security in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Pará.

Managed by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the project will be executed by the Federation of Social and Educational Assistance Bodies (FASE) over a 48-month period. The initiative is expected to directly impact 2,600 families, totaling approximately 8,400 people, across 57 municipalities (16 in Mato Grosso and 41 in Pará).

The funding targets traditional populations, including indigenous peoples, quilombola communities, and agro-extractivists, as well as family farmers and land reform settlers. Key objectives include fostering community-led productive projects, encouraging female economic autonomy, and strengthening climate resilience against drought and biodiversity loss.
