Amazon heat foci concentration varies across Acre and Amapá

Data from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) indicates significant variations in heat foci across the Brazilian Amazon. In the state of Acre, nearly half of the 773 recorded heat foci in 2026 are concentrated in just two municipalities: Feijó and Tarauacá. Together, these areas account for 45.5% of the state's total, with Feijó alone representing 30.5% (236 foci) and Tarauacá representing 15% (116 foci).

In Amapá, the situation presents a different trend. The state recorded the second-lowest number of heat foci within the Legal Amazon region between August 1 and September 8, 2026, accounting for only 0.8% of the region's 11,938 occurrences. However, Amapá saw a sharp increase in activity compared to the previous year, with 90 foci recorded in 2026 compared to 16 during the same period in 2025.
