Google Pixel 6a and Anker batteries linked to fire incidents in Japan

Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency has reported serious product accidents involving the Google Pixel 6a smartphone and Anker PowerCore 10000 mobile batteries.

In one reported incident involving a Google Pixel 6a, the device experienced abnormal heating while being charged with third-party USB cables and an AC adapter, leading to a fire that caused minor burns to a user. While the internal lithium-ion battery cell was identified as the source of the heat, investigators could not determine the exact cause due to the severity of the damage.

Additionally, the agency highlighted accidents involving Anker Innovations' PowerCore 10000 mobile battery, which caused fires and damage to surroundings. Anker Japan is currently conducting a recall for several models, including the PowerCore 10000, with a reported recovery rate of approximately 39.6% as of early September 2026. Consumers are advised to monitor their devices for unusual sounds or excessive heat during charging.
